A position a reader can identify
State what you are asking a reader to accept, then examine whether each paragraph helps establish it. A broad topic is not yet an argument.
Make the reasoning visible
Move beyond a stated opinion. Review how your claim, evidence and reasoning work together, how you address objections, and where a reader needs a clearer explanation. The feedback is an educational estimate—not an official class or exam score.

An example does not explain itself. Look for the connection between what the evidence shows and the conclusion you want the reader to draw.
Address a plausible challenge rather than a deliberately weak opponent. Sometimes a useful objection reveals a limit your claim should acknowledge.
Original teaching example—not a graded submission or proof that the underlying policy is correct.
Before: “The library should stay open later because students need it.”
After: “Students whose shifts finish after the library closes cannot use its study spaces. A later closing time on two evenings would give them access without requiring the same schedule every day.”
The revised version narrows the proposal and explains a possible reason. It still needs verified evidence about student needs and operating constraints. Use the outline planner to connect your own claims and support before polishing sentences.
Read criterion explanations beside the original passages. Decide whether the problem is missing evidence, an unstated assumption or the order of your ideas. Our revision guide helps you choose an order of work. If you already have a teacher’s points, the rubric score calculator combines those inputs; it does not replace this assessment.
Keep your class requirements separate. A custom rubric scaffold can help you discuss expectations with your teacher, but it is not uploaded to this grader. Your successful review counts against the same allowance shown on the plans page, and the same privacy information applies.
No. This page preselects the existing Argumentative Essay mode. It uses the same authentication, grading service, validated report format and account-wide allowance as the general and college graders.
No. The rubric considers how examples support an argument, but it does not establish whether sources are accurate, detect plagiarism or verify citations. Check evidence against the original sources yourself.
The current submission sends your essay and optional title, not your assignment or a custom rubric. The saved score uses EssayGrader’s versioned prototype rubric and is not an official grade.
The reasoning criterion asks whether claims connect to support and whether relevant opposing positions are considered fairly. The report can point to passages and suggest improvements; it does not decide what you must believe.
A successful regrade uses another credit from the same monthly allowance. Failed attempts do not consume a successful grading credit. Free includes three successful reviews per UTC calendar month; paid entitlements must be verified by the server.
After a successful grading you open your private report. The existing report dashboard puts criterion scores in the right-hand panel on desktop, with detailed feedback beside your writing. On mobile the score summary comes first.
